The urban local body sets sights on significantly augmenting its revenues from outdoor advertising

The OOH large format comeback on Bengaluru streets is imminent now that the Karnataka State Government has reportedly given its nod to the BBMP Advertisement Bylaws 2024. Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) will shortly unveil the new bylaws.

The new bylaws call for advertising firms to participate in auctions for winning media rights to specific areas of the city, whereby all such areas under the BBMP jurisdiction are specifically defined along with the maximum permissible advertising space and media dimensions.

To participate in the auctions, the firms shall first register with the BBMP on a fee payment of Rs 5 lakh that is valid for three years and to be renewed thereafter. The cost of ad rights to the specific locations will be linked to the local property guidance value

The media owners shall upon winning the bids pay a fixed fee to the BBMP for their media sites based on the road width adjacent to the site, and the local property guidance value.

A Times of India report states that through this new ad bylaws, BBMP expects to earn annual revenues from this stream in the region of Rs 500-800 crore.
