Allahabad airport media readies for Kumbh Mela
Allahabad airport, sees spike in demand with increased passenger capacity and flight operations at the airport
The Uttar Pradesh government is leaving no stone unturned to support pilgrims traveling to Kumbh Mela 2019. The government recently launched a new civil airport terminal at Allahabad airport to handle the expected surge in passenger traffic from January 15, 2019. This terminal can handle up to 300 passengers an hour and allows Allahabad to have more commercial flights ahead of the Kumbh Mela.
Under the ‘Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik-II (UDAN)’ of the regional connectivity scheme (RCS) where fares for flights are capped at Rs 2,500 per hour, AAI has awarded several routes linking Allahabad to 13 other cities. Routes connecting Allahabad to Bangalore, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Dehradun Gorakhpur, Indore, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, Patna, Pune and Raipur have been awarded. Incidentally, a non-RCS flight from Delhi to Allahabad has been operated by Alliance Air for a long time.
The Allahabad airport is today the fastest growing regional airport where flight traffic has doubled along with the number of flights –from 40 flights a day to 80 flights. The airport has also been made 24×7 operational for continuous traffic flow. With Kumbh Mela being one of the biggest congregations, the event is leveraged by brands of every category. Also airport as an advertising destination is much in demand to make the critical first impression.
